The Hustle Essay

In The Hustle it focuses a lot on the Blonde woman being a stereotypical woman which is the sex object. She is very pretty with the blonde nicely done hair and the face of makeup. She is a slim woman who obviously takes pride in her appearance. She shows the traits of a stereotypical woman by liking clothes, fashion and hair. She has a seductive voice and comes across as very confident. She owns the scene therefor holding the power which is not a typical stereotype for the woman especially when a man is in the scene. The shop assistant is also presented nicely, he is in a suit and stands tall, he talks nicely but is not the stereotypical male as he acts quite feminine so is the post masculine male. His body language and voice show the audience the impression he is most probably homosexual. The Blonde woman is shown as the sex object throughout the clip like when she puts on the fitted black dress which reveals all her open back while making seductive sounding noises, and her voice overall is very seductive. The shop assistant is only interested in where the money is so he took an interest in her as he new she had money by her big diamond ring symbolizing that she is rich and therefor a potential buyer. When a poorer woman came in looking scruffy with grey messy hair, plain cheap clothes and with no makeup and a very plain cheap wedding ring he automatically showed no interest in her. The woman spoke very quietly and was quite shy and the camera angles used showed she held no power. Even though she was talking the camera was focused on the shop assistant and the back of her showing he held the power in the situation. Also when the camera angle was on her face it was from a high shot like she was being looked down on showing her lack of power and authority. The music helped to show the audience this impression as the music was very jolly and jazzy to begin with but when she started talking it went quiet then eventually there was no music when she found out she couldn't afford the clothes, but when the shop assistant went to serve the blonde lady the music was back to how it originally was again as it was clear she had more money. The blonde woman also knew what she was talking about unlike the other woman showing she buys the expensive dresses a lot.

The blonde woman has a mischievous way about her throughout and the music helps to encourage that. Although the dominant and powerful with a lot of close ups and center shots which show this she becomes vulnerable and in need of a mans help which is a stereotype that women do, when she looses her ring. It shows her panic when the camera shots become quick, but even though the panic she still owns the scene. It once again shows her power when she orders the shop assistant what to do to find her ring. She can maybe show this authority because she is rich and shows she is maybe too rich when she offers £5000 to whoever finds the ring which is not particularly necessary but maybe to show off. There is a close up of her face as she leaves once again showing this suspicious mischievous way about her and it is shown why when the end shot shows her with different color hair showing it was a disguise and that she had managed to trick the shop assistant for money which shows she is not the typical stereotype for a woman.

The scene with the plain scruffy looking man with casual clothes who is smoking shows he is working class but the old man sitting next to him in the nice expensive suit sharing his, probably expensive whiskey is upper class and the alpha male. The camera focuses on them drinking whiskey in a huge room showing the man is rich, which is a manly drink so is a manly trait making them both masculine, maybe trying to show authority to each other. It shows the two men together in the shot showing the close relationship they have and although one has more money are still equal, with them sitting there still drinking the whiskey having a laugh together with the happy music, creating a laid back atmosphere. There is also another working class man fixing the alarm who is not equal to the rich man he is wearing a shirt but still looking a bit scruffy. It shows he wants to impress the man on the phone who he is doing a job for so he hangs up when things go wrong with the alarm showing that even though the man is on the phone he still holds all the power and authority in the scene, maybe because the other man is getting paid and is scared that he doesn't do the job right.

A well presented man in a suit comes into the shop and the camera focuses on the nice shoes which make the shop assistant interested because its clear he has money. As the shop assistant is post masculine male the other man holds the more masculinity between them showing him more authoritative. The shop assistant obviously does not think that as he tries to trick him and manipulate him into giving over the ring so he gets the reward which fails. The blonde man is quite laid back but confident with a casual voice when speaking to the shop assistant. He holds the power over the shop assistant as he has want the other wants which is the ring. When leaving the blonde man pats the shop assistants arm which is quite patronizing showing he is definitely the more dominant one, and he is as he also tricked the shop assistant with the other blonde lady.
